Ascend from Chopta (2,680m) through meadows and oak-rhododendron forest to Tungnath (3,680m) — the world's highest Shiva temple — then summit Chandrashila (4,130m) for breathtaking 360° views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath and Chaukhamba.
Trekking is one of the major activities in the Chopta region. The Tungnath-Chandrashila trek is counted among the fabulous and extremely picturesque treks of the Garhwal Himalayas, which can be undertaken throughout the year.
This trek route takes you through enchanting meadows, oak forests and hushed hamlets. A snow trekking experience is also available in the winter season for the most thrilling Himalayan adventure.

Chopta falls within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and has attracted bird lovers from all around the world. With over 200 bird species including the spectacular Himalayan Monal, Koklas Pheasant and Snow Partridge, it is truly a paradise for birders.
Early morning walks from the camp are the best way to encounter wildlife in its natural habitat — away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Mountain cycling in the Chopta region is thrilling — roads are covered with greenery and offer major views of snow-capped mountains. Choose from many cycling and mountain biking routes as per your interest and skill level.
Chopta to Ukhimath — approx 30 km ride through evergreen forests on a thrilling downhill road. A route of 50 km also moves from Chopta to Gopeshwar through mesmerizing mountain terrain.

Good ankle-support trekking shoes are essential. Avoid sandals on mountain trails.
Chopta weather changes rapidly. Carry thermals, fleece and a waterproof layer.
Drink 3–4 litres of water daily. Spring water is available on trails.
Begin treks before 7 AM to avoid afternoon clouds and get the clearest views.
